Old Business, New Business, & Open Discussion
The 12/27/11 draft airfield rules were discussed and approved. The new rules will be posted as revision 01/18/12 since that was the date they were approved.
The purchase of a snow blower was discussed. The December authorization to spend $700 for the snow blower attachment for the lawnmower was insufficient. The attachment would cost $1,100. A self propelled snow blower of a size appropriate for our airfield would cost $2,400. Due to the frequency of use and the logistics of getting the snow blower to the airfield, it was decided not to purchase a snow blower. The board members were authorized to hire a commercial snow removal company in the event of a heavy snow. The cost for this service was expected to be about $200.
The annual “Wings Over the Rockies Model Expo” will take place on February 25. Due to a lack of interest and minimum benefit, our club will not participate in the event this year. If a club member wishes to organize a club table for this event, please contact the President.
Possible club events for the year were discussed. Many liked the idea of a few small informal airfield barbeques to help the members meet each other. Event details will be presented at future meetings.
A shade shelter for the airfield was discussed. Joe Apice said a prefab shelter is available for about $700. He will get with Larry Everett and determine if the Park would approve such a structure.
The water collecting on the sidewalk from the parking lot to the pits was discussed. The problem is that the sidewalk is lower than the surrounding land. A higher sidewalk can be created by pouring more concrete or by adding stepping stones / bricks on top of the sidewalk. This discussion will continue later.
Officer Reports
President, John Dickens, stated that his goal for the club was for continuous improvement.
Vice President, Ed Hoyer, presented a summary of the FAA meeting in Ontario California about the new airspace rules. No specific rules were discussed. The rules will be announced late this year and enforced in 2013.
